After a final-round tussle with Jon Rahm, Patrick Cantlay shot a one-under 69 to win the FedEx Cup and its $15m jackpot at the season-ending Tour Championship to claim the biggest prize of his career to date.
Based at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Patrick started the final day with a two-shot lead, and when he stuck an approach in the final round with two holes to play, Rahm’s chances of a late comeback were all but over even though he shot 2-under for the day.

The Californian recently admitted to drawing a line on his Titleist Pro V1x golf ball to help him with alignment on some short putts. Evidently, it has paid off with the recent victory, and at the BMW Championship, he had the highest Strokes Gained: Putting (+14.6 in regulation) than anyone in the statistic’s history (since 2004).
This season has been quite a memorable one for Cantlay, as he has won on the PGA Tour six times and qualified for his first-ever Ryder Cup. The final round between the American and Rahm offered a sneak preview of the illustrious event, which will be played at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Wisconsin later this month when the two will be on opposing sides again.
It is the 43rd Ryder Cup after the 2020 Ryder Cup was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cantlay will be hoping to help bring back the trophy to the states, as Europe regained the prestigious trophy in the 2018 meeting with a 17½ to 10½ victory.
Patrick will look to continue his fine form heading into his first-ever taste of one of the biggest sporting events on the calendar. Donning the nickname ‘Patty Ice’, Cantlay has no weaknesses as he ranks in the Top 30 in the top-six strokes-gained categories. He will be someone to keep an eye on during the 43rd Ryder Cup that starts on Friday 24th September.

He will join up with Team USA weeks before the competition gets underway, as Team Captain Steve Stricker is hosting a two-day practice session to make sure all the members of his team know the course inside out.
Stricker will be looking to avoid another Miracle of Medinah, as it may still be lingering in the back of his head when he was a Captain’s pick back in 2012. Europe has won seven of the last ten Ryder Cup’s, and although Team USA are favourites due to being on home soil, this year’s event is setting up to be memorable – especially now that fans will be allowed back.
